Hawaii only has one zoo -- the Honolulu Zoo in Waikiki. There's so much to see and do -- this will help you plan your day.
Start at the flamingos from the front entrance and go to your right. Enjoy the sights of the elephants and voices of the various monkeys. With an exhibit of monkeys, there are turtles on logs along the water side.
Travel down the path to see the orangutans, tortoises, and the reptile house. The reptile house contains a variety of amphibians and reptiles, such as snakes, lizards, and frogs.
Come out and go into the African Savanna, which includes hippos, giraffes, rhinos, zebras, hyenas, and several other African animals.
Enjoy the newly renovated Keiki Zoo, which includes a llama, horse, cow, pigs, chickens, a petting area of goats, and a new "tube" of koi fish.
Eat at the Kapahulu Market and snack bar and then let the kids play at the nearby playground across the path. Food ranges from spam musubis, hotdogs, and plate lunches. Drinks do not come with lids, as the lids are a hazard to the animals.
Take a breather and look at the different birds. Know that one of these bird exhibits has the Nene Goose, the state bird.
Remember that the exit is just past the flamingo area. This is the only exit of the zoo; instead of having 3 or 4 gates along the parking lot side.
