Surfing areas where the swells have a sharp cross over from deep water to shallow water so the waves are usually bigger and more powerful than in other locations. In addition, refers to surf spots where the deep water bathymetry of the ocean floor can significantly focus extended period swells, usually over 16 seconds or so, to generate bigger and more impressive waves. Spots with underwater canyons are a primary examples.
